CASW Showcase

Logo for CASW Showcase

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing publishes Showcase in order to highlight the best of science writing and, in the process, teach and inspire science writers what great work in science journalism looks like.

In order to do so, Showcase uses the PressForward plugin, with heavy reliance on the bookmarklet, to work with volunteer judges who review the work of science writers already acknowledged by national organization and prizes. Then, working with Open Notebook, Showcase analyzes and annotates the chosen pieces of science writing to create “storygrams,” republications with annotations in order to clearly articulate what, exactly, makes it an exemplary work in the field. The collaboration between CASW, PressForward, and The Open Noteboook have allowed CASW to turn Showcase into a publication that is both engaging and educational.
