On July 8, 2014 at 9 am, the PressForward team will be running a workshop at DH2014 in Lausanne titled, “Using the PressForward Plugin to Create and Maintain Web Publications.” The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning how to use the soon-to-be released PressForward plugin [ed: now available on WordPress and GitHub!] to create web publications based on content collected from the web. An open-source WordPress plugin, PressForward enables users to aggregate and to transform web feeds into a site that republishes blog posts, news, and reports, streamlining the process of creating web publications. PressForward publications are proven to build communities, direct attention to often-overlooked work, and stimulate discussion of ideas, methods, and news.
During our half-day workshop at DH2014, participants will learn to install, activate, and use the PressForward plugin to create their own publications. Hands-on instruction will cover how to identify and add feeds to the aggregator, how to track an intuitive workflow through aggregation, review, and nomination, and how to publish selected content with an existing WordPress theme. In addition, participants in the PressForward workshop will consider the logistical and editorial decisions that arise in the process of developing a successful web publication like Digital Humanities Now.
Registration is open now, and enrollment is capped at 20, so register soon. We look forward to seeing you there!
